UNDER THE NOTHING NIGHT

Wee / Gry Kipperberg / Francesco Scavetta (NO)
Laida Lertxundi (ES) / Sheriffs of Nothingness (NO)

The body that embraces and meets the others, from where we look and by which we are seen.

Under the nothing night is a solo work that deals with identity and presence. The relationship between body and nature is an underlying theme. We relate to nature by drawing parallels between physical landscapes and a phenomenological body, as sites of experience and recollection. Emotional environments that hints at narratives, while remaining enigmatic: an extended longing to surrender.

Wee has been creating works for more than 20 years, and it’s 10 years since the last solo with Gry Kipperberg. This time we have been interested in the complex expression of a multi layered persona fuelled by personal memories, associations and perceptions, all experienced “not as nostalgia, but as a way of making sense, of finding practical applications of the past in the present.” (Bruce Nauman)

PRESS

“A disappearance number. Kipperberg's movement expression draws on the liberating qualities of the release technique. But constantly the organic flow is broken up by more marked twists, stops or narrative hand movements. Kipperberg's masterful physical abilities make me believe in every single movement she performs. (…) The strength of the choreography lay in the ability to create a fragmentary, playful and illogical sequence of events, where I experienced a satisfaction in not being able to predict what would happen.” – Andrea Csaszni Rygh, Norwegian Shakespeare Magazine

Wee

Established by Francesco Scavetta and Gry Kipperberg in Oslo, in 1999, Wee has produced 23 performances -and several commissioned and shorter works-. Since the beginning, it has had an extensive international activity, touring in 37 countries -in Europe, Middle East, Asia, North and South America-, becoming one of the leading company of the Norwegian scene.

Wee's creations have changed in format and aesthetic, yet they have continuously tried to explore what theatre and performance can mean in contemporary life and what kind of dialogues they can open with the audience. Scavetta’s theatricality have often been associated with the atmosphere of a weird dream or to a playful world of a child: strange, funny, poetic and, at the same time, surprising. The core of the company's investigation deals with fragility and paradox, epiphany and dream, empathy and surprise, avoiding narrative and physical cliché, and questioning reality and identity with humoristic disbelief.

Laida Lertxundi

Laida is a filmmaker and artist living and working between Los Angeles, California and the Basque Country. Sheriffs of Nothingness

Sheriffs of Nothingness is a stringduo consisting of two of Norway's most distinguished artists in contemporary music: Rønnekleiv as a performer and Moe mostly as a composer. Moe and Rønnekleiv won the Norwegian Grammy for best contemporary album in 2007, and in 2011 Moe was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Award. Sheriffs of Nothingness interplay is remarkable. They move inside their music like one organism with all kinds of materials and passages. It's a true joy listening to their playfulness and at the same time profound musical awareness in everything they do.
